Waterproof Solder Wire Connectors
Waterproof solder wire connectors are an amazing new way to connect bare copper strands. Unlike non-insulated crimp connectors, they provide a soldered, insulated and sealed connection in one step.
They have a dual-wall design with polyolefin tubing on the outside and hot melt adhesive inside. When heated, the polyolefin shrinks and the adhesive flows, providing a waterproof seal.

These waterproof wire connectors require a little practice to get the hang of, but they are incredibly easy and fast to use. Just place the stripped wires in the clear connector tube, orient them correctly and hit it with a heat gun to watch it shrink and flow a ring of low temperature solder around both bare wires. Once cooled, the insulator will keep the connection waterproof.

Rugged
If you tinker with cars, boats or other electrical devices then there is a good chance that you’ve used some sort of solder wire connector at 4 pin waterproof connector one point. These handy connectors bypass the need for a soldering iron and a crimping tool, making them much faster, cheaper and easier to use. They also make it easy to splice in new wiring and keep existing wiring from getting damaged by water, salt or other chemicals.
When choosing a solder wire connector for rugged applications, look for one that is rated to perform high numbers of mating and unmating cycles. A product like the LEMO K Series, for example, is able to tolerate harsh environments with high vibration frequencies. It does this by using a milled contact surface that mates to an insulator, rather than the stamped edge found on many other non-rugged connectors.
Another important aspect of a rugged solder wire connector is its ability to withstand mechanical damage, including impact and vibrations. A good way to determine this is by looking at its durability rating – for example, the Archer Kontrol is able to handle 500 mating and unmating cycles whereas other products may only be rated to 30 to 300. You can also check that the connector’s design protects the contacts from damage by shrouding them in both mated and unmated conditions.
